SWYP: CUSAT Becomes Meeting Place of Various Cultures

Kochi:  Cochin University of Science and Technology hosted the  World Youth Leaders Summit as a part of SWYP, an initiative of Japanese Government.  Around 300 participants from 11 countries took part in the programme which was inaugurated by Dr. J. Letha, CUSAT Vice Chancellor. Mr. Kenichi Komagata, Administrator of SWYP, Mr. A. K. Dubey IAS, Secretary (Youth Affairs), Government of India, Kiran Sani Gupta IAS, Additional Secretary, Mr. Asit Singh, Joint Secretary Mr. Sanjayan Kumar IFS, Director, State Youth Welfare Department and Mr. I. B. Lenka, Under Secretary were also present.  After the inaugural function participants from different countries and Students of CUSAT formed seven groups and had discussion on various topics including Capacity building for Disaster Reduction, Child Rights, Diversity and Inclusion, International Co-operation, Lifestyle related Diseases, Conversations about Empowering Self and others, and Social Innovation, Realising Sustainable Economic Development etc.  The afternoon session witnessed various cultural performances by both visitors and CUSAT Students.    The programme is intended to have healthy co-operation between nations and understanding of varied cultures.  The representatives from India, Australia, Jappan, United Mexican States, Republic of Mozabbic, Sultanate of Oman, Peru, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka participated in the function.
