SDG 14 Life Below Water
The School of Marine Science at Cochin University of Science and
Technology (CUSAT) is a distinguished institution, established in
1938, that stands as a pioneer in ocean research and education in
India. This remarkable center is dedicated to the vital mission of
conserving and sustainably utilizing the world's oceans, seas, and
marine resources. Within its expansive framework, the School
encompasses several specialized departments: the Department of
Atmospheric Sciences, which explores the interactions between the
atmosphere and ocean; the Department of Chemical Oceanography,
focusing on the chemical processes in marine environments; the
Department of Physical Oceanography, examining ocean dynamics and
circulation; the Department of Marine Biology, Microbiology and
Biochemistry, investigating marine organisms and their biochemical
processes; and the Department of Marine Geology, which studies the
geological aspects of marine environments. Additionally, the
National Centre for Aquatic Animal Health plays a crucial role in
ensuring the well-being of aquatic species, while the School of
Industrial Fisheries addresses the practical aspects of marine
resource utilization. CUSAT is at the cutting edge of tackling
challenges that affect oceanic and coastal regions. Through a
combination of innovative courses and comprehensive research and
development projects, the institution is committed to evolving
scientific solutions that address environmental issues, promote
sustainability, and foster a deeper understanding of marine
ecosystems.
